2010 Volvo XC90 Review

May 27, 2010 No Comment

The 2010 Volvo XC90 is a midsized four door SUV that has been very popular among families. A standard version can easily accommodate five adults while its more powerful V8 model offers third row seating for seven passengers. Priced between $37,700 and $47,500, this new SUV embodies the safety and reliability of Volvo brand.

Trim Levels

The 2010 model is available in three trim levels. The 3.2L inline six cylinder engine offers 235hp, and is available either in front wheel, or all wheel drive versions. It offers 15mpg in city, and 22mpg on highways. A more advanced R-Design version is also being sold in markets which is slightly expansive, but produces greater power from its 24 valve 3.2L engine.

For those who need maximum benefits, the V8 trim level comes with 4.4L 311hp engine, and an array of extra features. All of these models are equipped with 6 speed automatic transmission including five years basic, and power terrain warranty.

Specifications

Although the current model is a carry over from the previous year,  people who have become accustomed to high safety features of Volvo seem to compromise on lack of luxury.

It does not mean that Volvo lacks in basic amenities, but most drivers prefer better fuel economy, and a more powerful off-road experience. In fact, experts have described the overall driving experience as average. Still, most analysts admire the high safety standards that have made Volvo a favorite among families.

Apart from loads of airbags, Volvo also revolutionized the stability control system which activates gyro sensors that automatically takes over control from the driver to prevent a potential roll-over. Besides the blind spot information system mounted on the side mirrors also keep drivers on alert.

These safety measures compliment other well known features including anti-whiplash seats, side curtain airbag protection, and an emergency communication system.

Luxury

For those searching for luxury, the new Volvo XC90 has almost every modern feature. Even standard models include options such as rear entertainment, a DVD based navigation system, interior air quality system, and Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound audio. Yet, the V8 model is equipped with even more luxurious executive package and may cost approximately $55,000.

Styling

Although critics have complained about outdated styling, and they demand a total makeover, the Volvo engineers seem to prefer dependability. This philosophy is apparent in the new model which is priced to attract loyal customers while every possible add-on feature is made available to those who would like to customize XC90 according to their tastes.

Drive

While on the road, drivers feel that Volvo XC 90 offers a pleasant drive. Moreover, this vehicle is not sporty nor made for bumpy rides. Otherwise, the cabin is quiet and there is little body roll around corners ensuring that kids remain engulfed in their DVD systems. In the near future, diesel variants are expected to be marketed which should provide an added incentive to buy the Volvo XC90.
